A pink and yellow Columbine wildflower blossoms in woodland shade in May. This one was in Minnesota. Known as Canadian Columbines or Aquilegia canadensis are frequented by hummingbirds. Also known as the eastern red columbine, or wild columbine, it is in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. It is a wild perennial growing in rocky woodland slopes, east of the Rockies. It hybridizes with other Columbine species. The flowers are prized for their unusual, delicate form held high on stalks. The leaves look scalloped.
