Ants are colonial animals, function as an organized whole. They evolved from wasps, and their body shapes are similar, as well as their development. The colonies consist of sterile, wingless females, which are mostly workers and soldiers; fertile males or drones; and fertile females or queens. The larger ants are 2” long. The word Ant originally meant biter.
