Piping Plover Chick Picking at Bee DSC_7739DYC2
Add to Lightbox DownloadA piping Plover chick can run and catch bugs to eat only hours after hatching. This chick has caught a bee in the eel grass which has washed on shore. They are considered an endangered or threatened species in all parts of its range, and endangered in Massachusetts, where this one was seen. The parents both sit on the nest, but the females often leave the male with the hatchlings. They can fly 3-4 weeks later.
