Add to LightboxNorthern Caridean Shrimp on a Finger Sponge in the Bay of Fundy in Maine, USA. Pandalus borealis species is found in cold parts of the north Atlantic. Also called Maine shrimp, pink shrimp, deep water prawn, deep-sea prawn, Nordic shrimp, northern prawn, northern shrimp, or cold water prawn. They inhabit muddy bottoms in waters with a temperature of 32–46 °F. These shrimp are hermaphroditic, born as male, but after a couple of years, they become female, and continue to grow up to 6 1/2".
