Bighorn sheep herd together in the Badlands, able to tolerate the extreme conditions. The Badlands of Southwest South Dakota, was named by the Lakota people who called it "mako sica," meaning “land bad, due to its rough topography, extreme weather, lack of water. it is dry and very dusty. The nearest city is Rapid City, about 63 miles away.
