After a 2-mile hot, buggy hike into Bear Pond, the Everglades, I ask myself: "Is that all there is?" Looking out at the seemingly uninhabited pond, I hear behind me a loud, hollow thump...chomp! Crocodiles chew their food, tossing the head to position a 1 ft Black Drum better in its teeth. Blood runs out its jaw. Is this 13 plus foot beast still hungry? He crosses over the canal toward me. I know they can run 35 miles an hour. Alone, I rapidly leave the area.
