Add to LightboxA great Egret (Ardea alba) is a wading bird found in fresh and salt habitats. This one has just stabbed the water in a salt wetland while fishing. It is dusk, and the background has gone black. Great Egrets eats mainly small fish but also reptiles, amphibians, small birds, mammals and invertebrates such as shrimp, worms, and water insects.
