Male American Bittern to Mount Female DSC_7388C9x16CTOPSH
Add to LightboxA showy male American bittern (Botaurus lentiginosus) of the Heron Family, has puffed, strutted and pranced in front of a hen. He approaches her, bows and allows her to peck the nap of his neck. Then he does the same before she allows him to mount her back. It is over in a flash. She then skulks away, mostly hidden by tall grass. Part of a series.
