Add to LightboxIrish Moss (Chondrus crispus) grows abundantly in shallow waters of Maine. It is harvested for packing lobster, seafood and as an edible vegetable and a gelling agent, carrageen. In bright sunlight its tips glitter with purple highlights. Both the bouncy Irish Moss and the brittle branching Coraline Weed (Corallina officinalis) grow a few inches in height.
