Add to LightboxFive to 25 feet long, the stipes of Sugar Kelp can be long (longicruris) or short (saccharina), hollow or not. The typical ruffled edges can be smooth. With finger-like holdfasts the plant attaches to rocks, mussels, or other sturdy material. It favors healthy currents. It is edible and sweet.
