Painted Anemone (Urticina crassicornis) BC_UW_204J2
Add to LightboxThis beautiful scarlet and golden Anemone feeds in the currents of Queen Charlotte's Strait off Northern Vancouver Island, Canada. Characterized by the longer, banded tentacles, this is called the Painted Anemone, or previously Tealia, (Urticina crassicornis). This anemone reaches a size of 8" wide by 12" tall. The red of the central oral disk draws the eye into the photograph, but in the underwater world without my strobe light, red disappears into the darkness.
