Luna moth (Actias luna) Black JM_133CL_SQ
Add to LightboxA lime green Luna Moth has freshly emerged. It's life as a moth will be short. They have no mouthparts with which to eat. Their purpose now is to mate. Nature survives in spite of us. This one crawled out of the leaves neglected last fall. These large moths can reach a 7" wingspan. Pesticides have taken a toll on these lovely creatures. The adult lives only a week and does not eat, only mates. They are nocturnal. They range throughout central and eastern USA and Canada.
