Add to LightboxAfter the sun goes down on the Massachusetts beach, Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus) chicks push and shove to huddle under their mother's warm breast. It looks like all legs! Endangered Piping Plovers lay their eggs on the upper beaches amongst the rocks they resemble. The eggs are difficult to spot even when you know to look for them, so they are vulnerable and protected. Both parents share sitting on the eggs.
