Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis) male JMC_1780CLC2.tif
Add to Lightbox DownloadThis was the first time I saw some Long-tailed Ducks (formally Old Squaw) off our local coast. They come down from the high arctic nesting grounds, like the Snowy Owls but I think they are less common. Their population is listed as "Vulnerable". I plan to go back and get some more, brighter images. But until then, I will have to be happy with these. A flock winters off Martha's Vineyard.
