A Killdeer is standing watchfull not far from its camouflaged nest on the rocks. The eggs look like the rocks they are hidden amongst and so they are safer from predatory birds but easily trampled by accident. They have striking red-rimmed eyes. The killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) is a large plover.
