Hermit Crab on Sand Dollar UWNE©JMacCausland_DSC_1417FLCaSQ
Add to LightboxLive Sand Dollars are often seen with an edge wedged into the sand, feeding. Perhaps this one was in such a position when it got turned upside-down. The top side is more dome shaped, while you can see this bottom is very flat. On it, a Long-clawed Hermit Crab (Pagurus longicarpus) walks. The Hermit is in an old Periwinkle shell which is about 1/2" in length.
