Knobbed Whelk (Busycon carica) eating
Add to LightboxA Knobbed Whelk (Busycon carica) feeds on blue mussels in Rhode Island. This is the face of a marine mollusk, of which I have picked up many empty shells cast upon the shore by waves. I had to look twice to decide which was the front. The shell can grow to 9".
