Add to Lightbox DownloadSockeye Salmon can be seen spawning in this view of a clean Alaskan lake. The algae has been cleared away from the gravel nest, called a Redd. Pacific salmon are semelparous or die after spawning. While the picture looks easy, I had to take special care not to disturb the gravel bottom where the salmon were depositing their eggs in the scraped out Redds.
