Very tired but happy, Stephen MacCausland sits a moment in his sugarhouse during the early spring sugaring season in Northern Vermont. The hours are long and hard, with all hands-on deck as the season comes at will and dictates how long the sap will run. Once a good boil is achieved, the maker will work all hours to maintain the boil.
