Green Sea Urchins (Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis), Horizontal
Add to LightboxGreen Sea Urchins (Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis), are the predominant urchin of the North Atlantic. They are also seen in the Pacific Northwest, where they are smaller than the predominant red ones there. They are about 2" in diameter. They are harvested by SCUBA divers for their eggs or roe, considered a delicacy called "uni" in Japan. Sea urchins eat algae.
