Belted Kingfisher over Salt Pond
Add to LightboxA Belted Kingfisher (Alcedinidae) resides over a salt pond, Cape Cod. He fished successfully from this perch for an hour or more. Kingfishers (Alcedinidae) are small with a big head. The male is a blue, white and black colored bird. Females have russet red sides. Cornell Labs says: "Human activity, such as road building and digging gravel pits, has created banks where kingfishers can nest and allowed the expansion of the breeding range." I find them to be challenging to get close to here in Massachusetts.
