Jonah crab & snail fur©JMacCausland.tif
Add to Lightbox DownloadA Jonah Crab (Cancer Borealis), or Northern Crab, is similar in appearance to the Atlantic Rock Crab (Cancer irroratus) but has thicker claws. There are some other subtle differences in the shell shape: the Rock crab's shell, or carapace, edge is scalloped, whereas the Rock Crab has little points at the widest part. This crab is buried in the sand enough so that it would be camouflaged from above. They are edible and choice, but a lot of picky work.
