This pink flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) is hardy Florida through Coastal Maine in the USA. It has showy 3 - 4 inch leaf bracts which people refer to as flowers, but the flowers are actually the small central parts. The Bracts last a few weeks and are not messy.
The Dogwood is a small tree growing 15 to 25 feet tall. It is used widely in the home landscape. These hardy trees are native to the United States and are one of the earliest trees to bloom early. There is a lovely white variety (Alba) which grows wild on forest edges.
