A Female or juvenile Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus), with barred plumage, is chasing an American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) The Snowy is a winter visitor to Rhode Island from the Polar Tundra of the far north. The kestrel is within its year round range here. The Kestrel is about 10.5 inches in length, while the Snowy Owl is 23" in length.
