Add to LightboxA pink bushy-backed nudibranch (Dendronotus frondosus) forages on hydroids on the kelp in central Maine. forages on kelp in Northern Maine. A minute white isopod is attached to the pink sea slug, or Nudibranch. Nudibranch means naked lungs, and the "feather-like" extensions are how they breath. This Nudibranch is searching for its next Hydroid meal on the Colander kelp. It has a tiny, white hitchhiker, perhaps an arthropod, on its back, which might be a parasite. It has color variations from pink to rust to white.
