Romance and commitment are not only for people, but also for the birds. A male red cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) feeds his female mate, showing he can provide and strengthening their bond. Cardinal Courtship is imaged here against a backdrop of snow.
This image was one of five finalists in the Mass Audubon Annual Photo Contest 2015, and they continue to use it in their membership campaign ads. I lost out on the grand prize to a (cute) weasel! https://blogs.massaudubon.org/yourgreatoutdoors/?s=2015+contest
This image also placed as a Semi-finalist in the 2023 "Share the View " International Nature Photo Contest, out of 2,562 entrants.
