Clonal Plumose Anemone (Metridium senile), or commonly called Frilled Anemones (Metridium senile) filter feed. Here they cling to the Wreck of the Chester Polling, off Gloucester, Massachusetts. This one has a strand of green algae it is sucking into its mouth like a piece of spaghetti.
Frilled Anemones (Metridium senile) can reproduce sexually via currents in the water column or by dividing at it's base, called Pedal Laceration. You can see it's direct relatives in the background, which are closed, showing their striped stalks.
