An Eastern Red-backed Salamander (Plethodon cinereus) DSC_2202
Add to LightboxA teenage boy holds an Eastern Red-backed Salamander (Plethodon cinereus) in his hands. He has found it under a fallen log in Massachusetts woods. While their skin is moist, they are not slimy. Salamanders breath through their skin. Salamanders can regenerate lost limbs. I directed the boy to hold his hands in the direct sunlight, but with the shadows and his dark sweatshirt, the image has large areas of nearly black space for text.
