Black Leather Chiton BCUW©JMC_220
Add to LightboxBlack Leather Chiton (Katharina tunicata) grows to 6" and was reputably a food source for indigenous peoples of Vancouver Island. Alongside the Chiton are some Pink-tipped Green Anemones (Anthopleura elegantissima). Both animals occur over the entire Pacific USA. The rock on which these marine animals sit is covered in red algae and some green sea lettuce. Notice, too, a small snail traversing the Chiton.
