Gannet On Wall with Spread Wings NF_©JMacCausland'13_03DY
Add to LightboxA Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) strikes the classic Thunderbird pose as it clings onto the rockface of the rookery. A strikingly beautiful male Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) stands on the edge of a cliff by the breeding colony in Newfoundland. Adults are white with black-tipped wings which span six 1/2 feet. The head and back neck are tinted gold, and the blue eyes are lined with black. Gannets are seabirds, coming to land only to breed. But what is most impressive is how they dive into the ocean and fly under the water after fish and squid.
