Entwined Sea Pens ©JMC_DSC_7372FL
Add to LightboxTwo soft, orange Sea Pens (Ptilosarcus gurneyi) wave together in the current. They are florescent. They live buried in sandy areas with high current and extend about 18" up to feed in relatively deep water. They are related to coral and are similarly colonial animals. The Orange Sea pen is native to the Pacific Northwest.
