Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) in Blizzard 728Ccldy

A Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) is out in a blizzard of flying snow, looking for food to stay warm. They are native to North America. They are a large bird, the heaviest member of the order Galliformes, and may reach 25 pounds. The males are called Toms or Gobblers, and the females are referred to as hens. The male Toms can be extremely aggressive, attacking cars. Unlike domestic turkeys, they can fly, and fast. Turkeys can run at 50 miles per hour, faster than they fly at 18 miles per hour. Turkeys are constantly jerking their heads around, hence the slight motion blur in the photograph. The snowy conditions made for low light in the woods.
