A smiling American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus)_JMC_6918ASC
Add to LightboxWhile kayaking on the pond out back, I found this subject smiling at me. The American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) is native to Eastern North America, but because they are edible, have been introduced worldwide. Considered by many to be a delicacy, I think they taste like pond water. The Bullfrog is a true frog. They live in still water ponds, swamps and lakes, and their numbers are increasing. One may live 7 to ten years in the wild. The female can be 6 inches long and over a pound; the male considerably less. A group of them is referred to as an army or a colony.
